A dentist from Adelaide who treats patients with special needs has expressed her pride after receiving an invitation to attend the Queen’s funeral.

Dr Trudy Lin, a specialist in special needs dentistry, said that it was a great honour to receive the unexpected invitation, adding that going to the ceremony will be “deeply profound and moving.”

Dr Lin is South Australia’s Young Australian of the Year. She was chosen to attend the funeral by Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, along with nine other Australians. Mr Albanese said that the group of ten had been selected due to their “extraordinary contributions to their communities.”

Talking about the surprise invitation to the state funeral, which will take place on Monday 19th September at Westminster Abbey, Dr Lin said that it was “an extraordinary honour” and “such a privilege.”

Trudy was informed of the plans during a surprise phone call from the office of the Prime Minister on Sunday 12th September. She said that her initial reaction was to question whether it was real. After the news had sunk in, Trudy let others know and she has since appeared on radio and news shows. She described the late Queen as a “role model” and said that she was an “amazing example of service.”

Trudy will travel to Sydney to meet up with the other attendees and the Prime Minister before making the journey to London ahead of the funeral on Monday.
